New Pilot Program To Nab Sex Offenders Being Tested In Phoenix Schools

We are a nation focused on eradicating sex offenders from the lives of our children. They are in and near our schools, at the local parks, living next door, and even in some of our churches. The Phoenix schools, as well as their teachers, administrators and parents, want to protect their children from sexual attacks and abductions. Together with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office, the Phoenix schools have devised a pilot project to apprehend sex offenders and alleged abductors before they can do harm. The plan of the Phoenix schools is simple. Two cameras are now located outside the school office of the Royal Palm Middle School, scanning the faces of people who enter. Each camera uses face-scanning technology, designed …

New Orleans Schools Reach Out To Parents

The unsuccessful state of public schools in the nation is epitomized by the devastation of the city of New Orleans and the New Orleans Schools. Inner city and racial achievement gaps that had been ignored before Hurricane Katrina were impossible to ignore once the districts had to be rebuilt. The biggest challenge in rebuilding the New Orleans Schools seems to reflect the overall problem with public education in the United States. While everyone seems to have an opinion, no one really knows the best way to educate our children. Helping Parents Adapt to the New Orleans Schools Many former students of the New Orleans Schools are still scattered in other cities around the nation. But for those who returned to …

Nursing Continuing Education For the 21st Century

One need only to scan a newspaper or read a weekly magazine to be astounded by the number of stories about new medical breakthroughs, disease processes, emerging threats of disease, or innovations in medical and health care technology. The World Health Organization warns us to prepare for a potential worldwide Bird Flu epidemic, terrorists threaten us with chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, and new protocols for ACLS are released. How is a working nurse to keep up? Nursing education provides the basic building blocks of medical, scientific, and nursing knowledge, but competence in the nursing profession requires an ongoing process of continuing education. Continuing education for nurses is necessary for the nurse to remain up to date with the latest …

Nurse Training and Education

There is a growing demand for workers in the health care industry. The demand is only expected to increase as baby boomers age, increasing their need for health care while at the same time retiring from these positions in record numbers. The outlook for those interested in a career in nursing is very good. Although the education required to become a nurse is intensive, the pay scale is lucrative and many hospitals provide tuition reimbursement. The education requirements for nursing include both theoretical and practical experience. The theoretical work includes classroom education, and covers subjects such as chemistry, nutrition and anatomy. The practical work provides the student nurse with hands-on supervised training in the clinical setting. Once you have completed …

Number Of Charter Schools Increasing Over Traditional Tampa Schools

In 1996, then governor Jeb Bush co-founded the first charter school within the state of Florida, when most educators across the nation thought of charter schools as nothing more than a fad. Now, there are more than 350 charter schools within the state of Florida; there are 38 across the Tampa Bay area with several in the Tampa Schools area — private and public. The movement has mushroomed across Florida with charter school enrollment expected to top 100,000 students this year. Yet, if you ask the average adult on the street, most have no idea what a charter school is. Though many charter schools are private businesses that operate under the guidelines of the state school board, many were traditional …

Number Crunching The Vedic Way!

Vedic Mathematics is the name given to an ancient system of Mathematics which was rediscovered from the ancient Indian Scriptures called Vedas meaning ‘knowledge’ between 1911 and 1918 by Sri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji (1884 – 1960) who was the Sankaracharya of Govardhan Matha Puri. In the beginning of the twentieth century, when there was great interest in the Sanskrit texts in Europe, some scholars ridiculed certain texts which were headed Ganita Sutra which means mathematic formulas. They could not decipher any mathematics in the translations and therefore dismissed the texts as rubbish. Bharati Krishna, who himself was a scholar of Sanskrit, Mathematics, History and Philosophy, studied these texts and after lengthy and careful investigation was able to reconstruct the mathematics …

Nuclear Power – It’s Back?

Nuclear power plants currently provide about 17 percent of the world’s electricity, yet how much of the world’s current and future environmental problems does Nuclear Power contribute to? Nuclear power has both powerful enemies and friends but does the bottom line come down to costs? The December 2005 World Nuclear Association report The New Economics of Nuclear Power states that “Nuclear power is cost competitive with other forms of electricity generation, except where there is direct access to low-cost fossil fuels”. The need for cheap energy can not be argued when every week price increases are announced from all the gas and electricity suppliers in the UK. The Ukraine recently had their gas supply stopped by Russia, how long is …

Nourish The Imagination With DVD Learning

Have you ever seen an apple fall from a tree? One day a man with great imagination saw that commonplace thing. His imagination seized upon it, and he propounded Newton’s theory of law of gravitation. Another man sees his mother’s teakettle boiling. He observes that the lid is raised by the expanding steam. His great imagination starts from this homely detail; and he gives to the world–the steam engine. And so we might go on indefinitely. Enough, perhaps, to repeat that the world’s inventions have been possessed of fine and daring imagination, and that, without great powers of imagination, there can be accomplished no great or important work of any nature whatever. Perhaps you feel that your own imagination does …

Not A Day Without A Dictionary

There are many small ways to make your days a little more full and to take every opportunity for learning. As a teacher, I am passionate about seeing people grasp what a privilege and a blessing that learning is. If you are blessed enough to live in a place that allows or better yet encourages you to further your education, then I believe that it is right and good of you to do that. There are many, many ways for you to take learning seriously, but one of the easiest and best ways is to grab a dictionary. There are many things I love about a good dictionary. Being an English professor, the connection is obvious. I love words. I …

Learning is a Lifestyle – Why You Can’t Turn Your Back on Learning

In today’s society, everyone must think about “Future Proofing” them selves. There was a time when leaving school marked the end of learning. Unfortunately, it’s not like that today. What you know, understand and can do when you start work becomes quickly outdated. Everyone needs to keep learning so that they can cope with changes, new developments and standards at work. There is a special need for healthcare workers to keep their skills sharp. According to The Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions, educational activities in the healthcare profession should be, “… focused on developing a multi-perspective and the tools associated with it, including leadership tools, appropriate feedback mechanisms, and strategies for conflict identification and resolution.”* You have …

Learning How to Learn Makes Every Student Genius

Santosh Prem, a teacher at Malet Lambert School, claims that “the difference between a genius and a “normal” person is that the former “accidentally” acquired the critical combination of the appropriate environment, motivation and learning technique to excel in his particular field.” Literally it means that every student has the same potential to excel and succeed in studying without having any exceptional inborn gift. One of the most vital components in this “genius formula”, which significance is underestimated both by teachers and students is acquiring and harnessing of ‘Learning How to Learn’ skill. “This is probably the one skill that was never explicitly mentioned in all the years that you’ve spent in school. But it’s the one where there’s the …

Learning German Made Easy

Lets face it, trying to learn a foreign language is not the easiest thing to do. Many people will tell that it requires too much practice and patience as well as the fact that only people who have “photographic” memories stand a good chance of being able to speak a foreign language fluently. They will also say the only way to learn is to actually go to the country and hear the people speak and try converse with them. This is certainly helpful, but not entirely necessary. I think people who are truly passionate and determined to speak a foreign language will go the extra mile and put in the required effort regardless of whether they have good memories or not. …
